What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that a website you are browsing downloads to your computer or another device that you surf the web with (phone or tablet). They are very useful for the user, because they contain information that improves the way a website works. Cookies do not collect a user’s personal information and do not enable any identification of the website user. 

How do cookies work?

When visiting a web page for the first time, cookies are downloaded to your computer. They make visiting a web page a more pleasant, efficient and individually tailored experience. Cookies don’t save information on language and location settings or the contents of your shopping basket, but you do see ads tailored to your individual interests. Web page administrators use them to gather information on the number of visitors, the most read content and the most used functions. And based on this information they can improve the web page and make it more user friendly. 

Types of cookies

Temporary or session cookies are not stored but are deleted each time you close your browser.

Permanent or persistent cookies remain saved even after you close your browser. They are used for storing information about registration, language settings, traffic analysis etc. They are stored on your computer for days, months or even years.

1st party cookies from a web page being viewed by the user can be permanent or temporary. The web page uses these cookies to store information and will re-use them the next time the user visits the page.

3rd party cookies originate from other partner web pages (for example, they show ads on the original web page or measure traffic). Third party pages can use them for gathering user data from various websites and use them for various reasons, such as advertising, analysis or improving their products.
